For #fridayreads today, a return to @pluralistic@mamot.fr , this time non-fiction.
While reading this 2022 book, several times I got the impression that "this could have been written 20 years before" (or, more to the point, lament that we did not learn the lesson back then), but at the same time the book is still as relevant (if not more) today than it was when it was published.

The #DragonBall "Super Dragon Ball Heroes" spin-off is... strange. The story comes from a game, was adapted into a strange web series, but also Manga - and the more I follow it the less convinced I am about it. But the completionist in me has been winning and today this is my #fridayreads.

Not only my 2024 #Thinkpad has an harder time to keep its #trackpoint in place (and by that I mean that sometimes while typing my finger brushes against it hard enough that it slides out of its place - to the point that today it just jumped ut and fell into an hard to reach place), now I found out that it is a lot thinner than in older generation Thinkpads so the replacements I thought I had for it are useless... :-(
“As several European countries consider introducing a minimum age to access social media platforms, I urge caution in imposing sweeping bans. The focus on restricting access should not deflect attention from ensuring that platforms respect human rights through clear legal duties, independent oversight, and effective accountability,” said today the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael O’Flaherty, in his latest Shout Out.
Tonight I'll be celebrating #ilovefs with the Portuguese community (and you can too!), but until then...

These two are free software apps that, during this year, I felt thankful for existing, so today I want to send an heartfelt thanks to their maintainers!
💜 @microg@fosstodon.org 💖 @fdroidorg@floss.social
But if we're focusing on maintainers, then I must send special hearts to the maintainers these two, who have had tough challenges during this year (and need our support and strength for 2026).
I suppose the PMPC campaign started and is maintained by @fsfe@mastodon.social (thanks!) but one of the beauties of it is how it has grown, and it is nowadays part of the public discourse. We see political parties refer to the term. We see position papers and even law proposals referring to it. We see open consultation submissions by non-tech entities mentioning it. More than a campaign, it is now a concept, a movement, an ideal. So thanks to all of you that keep saying: "Public Money? Public Code!"
💘 And of course, my love to all the free software I kept using in my daily life, things would be difficult without it (and their maintainers): ssh, telnet, vim, gvim, botany, git, konsole, @firefox@lemmy.world, @ubuntu@ubuntu.social, @libreoffice@fosstodon.org, #mastodon, @element@mastodon.matrix.org and many, many more!
