@prologic I don't automate anything but I have sensors in every room to warn me if the humidity is too high and one in the fridge to warn if it's too warm/cold via xmpp message. It's working pretty well and was not expensive. I have fhem running on a raspberry pi which also serves other services.
@prologic So far it doesn't mean much but being a member is a precondition to participate in the work teams. I want to join the editor team https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/editor-team and maybe also the commteam https://wiki.xmpp.org/web/CommTeam
@prologic Yeah, busy with work and life. π Also I got voted into the #XSF so probably I'll be more busy with #XMPP im the future. How are you doing?
@lukem Nice. As I don't know how to create an android app I just wrote an xmpp bot for using twtxt. It's probably very hacky as I am no programmer at all.
@adiabetic I like #ZSH (I'm using it with the #grml config).
@freemor Doing everything in the browser is indeed terrible. But I have to admit that e.g. jitsi-meet for a/v conferences is pretty neat. You just share the link and password and everybody can join without installing and configuring a new software.
On Wednesday 10.06.2020 the developer of the #XMPP client conversations will talk about implementing audio/video calls with XMPP during the Berlin XMPP meetup (held online with Jitsi-Meet): https://nl.movim.eu/?node/pubsub.movim.eu/berlin-xmpp-meetup/3e091c00-5e20-4727-a61d-c92a247b106e
As it seems to be not well known I advertise it again: Please join the (inofficial) #twtxt #XMPP room at xmpp:twtxt@chat.mdosch.de?join
@dgold I've heard a lot of people successfully run Linux on Macbooks. Never tried it myself as they are too expensive for me.
@kas (re user-agent) That must be wrong for a long time then or was there a release recently?
@oevl I don't live on the #CLI but I listed some CLI and #TUI tools I use regularly: https://blog.mdosch.de/2019/06/06/tui-programme/ (German)
@oevl Maybe you have luck and your twtxt.txt file is archived by archive.org
@oevl Ah, so it's a launcher. Never heard about that. Thanks.
@oevl What are Albert/Alfred? Do you have butlers who tweet for you?
@kas (re #hashtags) My twtxt bot can filter the timeline for hashtags so sometimes I look what others are writing about a certain topic but usually I only find my own tweets. π
Yesterday I visited the #munich #philharmony for the first time as the 'Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg' and the 'Neuer Kammerchor Berlin' were playing 'The Sound Of Quentin #Tarantino' β awesome!
(re plaintextemail) @kas Nice! Maybe I could add a sieve filter which replies with a link to this site when receiving HTML emails. π€
@kas (re: degoogle) Hmm, I don't really like that they also recommend Threema for messaging as this is also a closed source silo. π€
Am on the way to a Munich white sausage breakfast before we go to the stadium for an icehockey match. Great Sunday!
@kas I managed it. I had to temporarily set my pgp_home to the autocrypt folder before importing the key.
@sarmonsiill (re publishing) I have an xmpp bot running on my vps and the bot updates my twtxt.txt using txtnish. So I use twtxt via xmpp.
One week after I set up my first mail server I'm done with the polishing and it looks like it's pretty state-of-the-art: https://mecsa.jrc.ec.europa.eu/en/finderRequest/0ff350307d4c4170d17be9118ad7c2e8 π
@lucidiot (re PSP) Hmm, maybe I mixed up things. I also couldn't find any source. π
(re ellipsis) @lucidiot @kas Oh, I found out my android keyboard also can easily do β¦ But how do you do this on Linux?
@kas (re autocrypt) Will try some other time. I realized the new neomutt doesn't like my config and I am not in the mood to debug this I'm back to the one in debian/testing.
@kas (re autocrypt) It was released with 20191025 but 20191102 in Debian/SID seems to not be compiled with autocrypt support. Building the package myself fails and I don't know what libs might be missing. :D
(re autocrypt) @kas Oh I didn't know a recent release brought autocrypt directly to neomutt. When I tried some 3rd party tool was necessary.
(re autocrypt) @kas Last time I tried to activate autocrypt for neomutt nothing worked. How hard was it for you to set up?
@johanbove Seems something went wrong and you tweeted your following list.
@freemor @adiabetic (re Catalina) I'm really not into MacOS so I had no idea what Catalina might be. But I like the zsh. π
Woohoo, sent FΓ€rjestad Karlstad home with a 2-1 so MΓΌnchen is already qualified for the knockouts. π It's always like winning a trophy when a german team beats a Swedish team. #CHL
@von (re #xmpp) I moved my family to xmpp. For friends you might consider quicksy that works like WhatsApp but you can reach them via normal xmpp. Maybe you will also find some interesting groupchats there: https://search.jabber.network/rooms/1
@freemor Yeah, jabber.org is in a bad shape. I have an old account there and 'donated' it to the conversations compliance tester. Was afraid when I saw the result.
@von (re poem) Good luck. I wrote poems twice for a girl. They were rather short, the girls name length in lines. And if you read the lines first character from bottom to top you got, ... I guess that's obvious. π
@von I am no dev and I have to use what the company uses.
@kas Your link made it into the libraries test. π https://github.com/FluuxIO/go-xmpp/commit/005c8823d9a3d57c133737f1f889658c3ddb869b
@kas (re @evil ) The '%F %f %s' doesn't make problems now as I quick and dirty added replacing % with %%. π
@kas (re evil) Didn't know of this one. Will try it, THX.
@kas (re xmpp lib) Oh, it's so bad? I created an issue. So you might comment there if you have knowledge of possible vulnerabilities. https://github.com/FluuxIO/XMPP/issues/6
@kas (re: XMPP-fsck) yes, gosrc.io/xmpp is using a lot of fprintf and seems to not do escaping for % π
Regarding my problem with some chars from @kasdk: The txtnish output looks fine. As I don't see anything in my program that could cause this I asked in the #golang #xmpp room. Let's see if someone has a good idea.
@mdom is this a known #txtnish issue what happend with @kas vs @kasdk or again some weirdness in my stack?
@kas (re kas/kasdk matching) What do you mean by 'it'? Twtxt? Txtnish? For my bot I actually wanted this behavior when filtering for mentions to also find @mdosch., @mdosch, or (@mdosch). Maybe I should limit it to ignore only one symbol after the search term.
@kas Indeed, it looks like my bot is doing something wrong. I just wonder why as I didn't have problems with special characters or even emoji before...
@kas It also looks mangled if I post it myself. So the problem seems to be on my side. sigh
Test: What will happen if I tweet this myself? SeptemberjΓ¦vndΓΈgn β https://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%A6vnd%C3%B8gn π
@kas I don't know. I will check what txtnish output in the terminal looks like. Right now I only access #twtxt via my #xmpp bot.
@kasdk looks something went wrong with your last tweet: > https://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%!C(MISSING)3%!A(MISSING)6vnd%!C(MISSING)3%!B(MISSING)8gn
@adiabetic I think my pulse would be high a lot of times if using iOS. I hear of so many problems from #xmpp devs fighting iOS and push. Not having a reliable chat app due to apples design constraints would really piss me off.
@freemor Forget about my last tweet. I was thinking of a script.
@adiabetic (re noti) Looks nice. But it supports strange things like telegram, hipchat and so on but not the standard #xmpp π‘
@robbinaer Yeah I solved it. Also I allowed scripts. Maybe it didn't work because I didn't allow cookies?
@robbinaer I posted a comment on your blog but it neither shows up nor do I get a message that it was rejected or needs approval. Is this normal?
@mox Here the snippet from my #i3 config: https://paste.debian.net/1093996/
@dgold I also get forwarded to https://reddit-stream.com/ when I open twtxt.xyz as https://twtxt.xyz (also the cert is not valid).
@mox Sorry had no time yesterday and today I'm also busy but maybe I find the time to dig in my configs.
@mox I can show you my setup for volume, brightness and screenshots when I am back home. I only use the suspend key in gdm3 where it works out of the box. I have a shortcut for calling 'gdmflexiserver' when I'm leaving the computer as my wife can't log in to her account otherwise.
@leo, welcome back! I wonder why my twtxt doesn't show your tweets but twtxt.xyz does? π€
@mox I am also using #i3 for some month and really like it. Also I switched to TUI/CLI programs for some tasks: https://blog.mdosch.de/2019/06/06/tui-programme/ . It's a lot more efficient when you don't have to change between keyboard and mouse/touchpad so often.
@ckipp What is this /tagword at the beginning of your posts for?
@clipped (re timestamp) '2019-07-02T16:19:44-04:00 ' that's the timestamp from @lectronice 's last post.
@adiabetic Two line fortunes were posted at the same time it seems.
@kas (re fortunes) The operator changed it to daily. π
@kas http://twtxt.xyz/user/e146b5935808fe4c but it's quiet now.
@nonlinear I always wonder why people still use #IRC nowadays. A chat system which can not be used mobile is weird today.
@nonlinear there is an #xmpp muc: xmpp:twtxt@chat.mdosch.de?join but unfortunately not much used.
@robbinaer Why do you have to reinstall when moving to another room? π€
@robbinaer, I guess you should refresh more regularily. :D
@kas, finally I found the time to look at these links. All these fucking websites are awesome. :D
@adiabetic I am strongly refusing to use Apple products but for different reasons. But I wouldn't consider anything except a computer or a console appropriate for gaming. Pads and phones might be for casual games but not for gaming.
Enjoying the nice weather in Katowice with a Tyskie. It's OK (the Tyskie).
@metamurks Did you intentionally tweet a lot of one word messages or did your twtxt client fail hard?
@freemor @von This is also my only tweeting thing. π I am active in some boards and #xmpp mucs though.
"A pathway to a well regulated instant messaging market": https://gultsch.de/regulations.html #xmpp
After my absence I had to remove a lot of people I followed before due to 404s or certificate errors. Is #twtxt still alive?
@kas to (1) he explained that phone numbers are too predictable to have any advantage by hashing and I don't understand (2) as this might be a step to increase the xmpp user base.
@sdk (re llgal) Thanx for the link. I will try this. So far I always used fgallery: https://www.thregr.org/~wavexx/software/fgallery/
@tx A lot of the original 'text' on social media is already an image, so sharing it as screenshot is not even the root cause.
@freemor (re Sextortion spammers) they always claim to have a video of me having fun but there is a sticker on my cam and the webcam module is blacklisted. π€¨
@robbinaer Maybe a DNS issue as I moved my domain to inwx yesterday. Can you try again?
@sdk I see as I am reading your tweet. Just tried to add you and it works. π
How do you follow tweets via gopher? Can #txtnish handle these?
@kas (re πͺπ₯) THX for https://wholeftopenthecookiejar.eu/
@tux0r > 1 / 0 = 0 Frome my point if view this is not zero but infinite.
/me has to switch off showing the timeline after tweeting with #goxtxt as it takes 2 minutes to fetch it π³. Too long if you have a message split into two tweets.
'Tweet exceeds maximum of 280 characters by 52 characters.' Argh, I need moar chars!
@metamurks Also you can still MITM https with a locally trusted cert for the mitming instance like McAffe does in a lot of company proxies. I think this could also be used for caching proxies.
@metamurks (re securing) I can understand this is annoying when you have a very bad connection, but I would sign Mike Loukides' comment on that site.
@metamurks Uh, it is very unlikely an upgrade fails so hard it really needs an reinstall. What happened? Power loss?
WTF #PayPal? "... as we have received notice that you are deceased... this breach is not capable of remedy." https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-44783779
@freemor (re wttr.in) yeah, seems like it works again today. Yesterday they had no more quieries left.
Oh, https://wttr.in has run out of weather queries. I hope that's not caused by xmpp:wttr@mdosch.de π
@kas (re pmOS) I'd love to have a 'real' Linux in my phone. The closest was when I was using #SailfishOS.
@kas (re #hooktube) nice. π Let's see if this addon works: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hooktubeify/
@kas, my "home airport" is No 5. π Actually I like munich airport. The higher ranked ones I have not visited so far. #muc
I'm not used to a second match in a tournament already being a 'do or die' match. Go #Germany! #GERvsSWE #WorldCup2018
Woke up prior to 7am without alarm. On a weekend. Something must be totally wrong.
I changed the code of #goxtxt (my #twtxt #xmpp bot) a little bit. If all went good there should be no change in functionality but it is no more depending on #head and #grep.
@freemor you'll probably have a lot of 404 on /wp-admin if you don't use WordPress. π
@71m (re replies) If your nick is mentioned with @ (i forgot yesterday, sorry) most clients should highlight it in your timeline if you are following the person mentioning you.
@freemor (re YouTube CLI) I always throw YouTube URLs on MPV for watching. It makes use of YouTube-DL and let you choose audio lang and subtitles.
@freemor (re rsync fake-super) I switched from this option to giving my remote user root privileges only for the backup operation with sudo. Then you can just copy the files without thinking about the option to restore right ownership.
@kas (re #OSH) Switching shells is the reason that I started deploying scripts in /usr/local/bin rather than defining aliases. :D Tested #bash #ksh #fish and #zsh and the latter it is now for years already.
@kas (re #OSH) thx, very interesting. But I'll stick with #ZSH as I am in group 1: https://www.oilshell.org/blog/2018/01/28.html#toc_2
@mdom '* kas (56.9047 seconds ago) [tls]' Oh that precision. π
@kas Yes, also it doesn't work at all with JS disabled. All you see is a blank page...
@kas, I didn't think you are affiliated with it. Just wondered as I didn't see what was special about it but I had to use a search engine to find out that the OS is Android. :D
Increased the limit in my twtxt botconfig to 280. @mdom, is there actually a limit for #txtnish? Didn't see a config for this.
@robbinaer I think I should also increase. 140 is often too short. I thought Twitter had also 140.
Omg, edited my last tweet 5x due to 140 chars. @all what limit have you set?
@freemor According to @Leo it is a #mastodon not a #matrix bridge. Oneway bridges just dumping here with no backchannel are pointless.
@freemor Ah the server.gkbrk.com are from mastodon. Also dumped them as without mastodon I never knew what their tweets where about.
@mdom is there a way to prevent txtnish from inserting linebreaks within the tweet?
I think I'll checkout #txtnish this weekend. It's syntax should work with my bot ootb.
(re twtxt following crash) @leo, @reednj_tw: I had to remove your accounts to stop twtxt from crashing. Don't know why. :-/
Does anyone else gets a crash wenn doing 'twtxt following'? https://files.mdosch.de/2018-04/following.txt
@leo where are all these accounts on server.gkbrk.com coming from? Is there an Webinterface or something like that?
@roka, @ocean, @ivesen, @nekoinemo, welcome to twtxt. π
@kas, @freemor (re: Matrix/TOX/P2P): Uh, never heard of #rumble or #scuttlebutt. Will have to look into it at some time.
@kas @freemor (re: Matrix) I'm not convinced of P2P for messaging as it usually drains the battery of your mobile.
@kas @freemor (re: Matrix) Me prefers #xmpp too. My tests with #matrix and #tox were all unsatisfying.
@demifiend @freemor If it is a problem on other platforms to be bullied by William Shatner we should market #twtxt with #NoWilliamShatner
@freemor Now I see your tweets again. Maybe deleting the cache helped.
@freemor Somehow I don't see your tweets after 2018-03-16 in the client although i updated your url. @buckket a caching issue maybe?
@freemor @dave thanks. :) But now I have to investigate why the bot refused to work yesterday evening till I restarted it. ^^
Google, please don't! (although I'm not using gmail) https://www.blog.google/products/g-suite/bringing-power-amp-gmail/
@leveck, I just use the standard client (wrapped in a local script for tweeting).
@leveck, I often use twtxt.xyz but when I am at my laptop at home I use the client as I have my terminator always opened.
@kas joined the #twtxt #xmpp room and doubled the amount of users. :D xmpp:twtxt@chat.mdosch.de?join
@kas, sure you can. But so far I am also not overactive here. :D
@robbinaer, ok I think it's normal for such a nerdy microblogging tool to be rather quiet.
@robbinaer My first impression of Fx57 isn't that bad. Although I am still missing some AddOns.
@freemor I'd really like to know how you managed to use twtxt via XMPP. π
@robbinaer Also I don't know if uMatrix is available as WebExtension. But I will see when Fx57 hits Debian.
@robbinaer I still have NoScript installed but do all the blocking with uMatrix. NoScript has some nice features so I would miss it.
@robbinaer Is it that bad? I'll just wait till it hits debian experimental or unstable to test it on my laptop running debian testing.
@benaiah thx for tw. Very useful, but for tt I just used 'twtxt timeline', increased 'limit_timeline' and activated 'use_pager' in config.
@robbinaer Danke. :) Wegen deinen Umlauten probier mal 'AddDefaultCharset utf-8' in der .htaccess
