@movq pretty cool, thanks for sharing! We saw the rocket go up yesterday, but it didn't occur to me to pull out the camera and take a shot until it was gone. I mean, the visible window is also quite short! 😅
“I'm so embarrassed. I wish everybody else was dead.”
We must name the bird now. How about Azabache? ☺️
@falsifian wow, it has been a while since I saw Fossil. I am surprised it is still around!
@itsericwoodward today I learned about "disc golf". I had no idea that existed. I am assuming the "MRV" is a model/brand for a disc? Any physical activity is good, specially one you enjoy!
@falsifian that's it, you ought to call your next child 2aea97bf3f5c2ea62cf5e701858694b7378ed58c! :-P
For what is worth, I am not experiencing what @lyse described. Tested with Firefox on Ubuntu, and Safari on macOS.
Woah, now this "rain, snow, hail, thunder, wind and sunshine" is truly something! We have started to get our "summer-in-spring" afternoon rains, turning the previously brown lawn super green, and making it grow at an exorbitant pace. Soon I will be force to mow weekly, and I am certainly not looking forward to it. 😅
@zvava rooting for it, and you! As soon as there is a stable (no future truly breaking changes) working alpha (can post, can follow, can reply), I will give it a spin! And yes, I understand the contradiction of "stable" and "alpha"; hoping my meaning comes through, LOL.
@kiwu that’s exactly right. Pretty niche, occasionally exuberant. 🤭
@prologic must be nice. Congrats! I am happy for you! 😂 Off jesting, enjoy mate! The rest of us will continue slaving ourvselves. 😅
@thecanine congrats on the win! Hopefully it will not turn sour with the next "enter period of time here". It seems flip-flopping is the law of the land around here.
I never got to ask you, are you affected by this as a developer, or end user, or both?
@prologic don't! You might be into troubles. Just record something small, and masterful, for us to listen, forget the costume. 😅
@prologic show a video of you playing it while wearing a medieval joker costume, or it didn't happen! :-D
@itsericwoodward hey, link to repository on https://www.npmjs.com/package/express-twtkpr is broken. It points to https://git.itsericwoodward.com/eric/express-twtkp. Looking forward to see more documentation!
@kiwu after you upload, make sure the audio file looks like this:

And it will work.
@rdlmda that’s odd. In here is similar, but not random. All it takes is some rain, and then flip a coin: we may, or may not lose power.
@movq I don't think it is anything you are doing wrong. I think it is on @prologic side. I am getting the exact same result, but I never cloned that repository. Maybe it worked fine at certain point, when @lyse cloned it, but I doubt brand new users can get through.

😱😱😱
@lyse "deep layers of the Mills infrastructure" LOL.
@rdlmda it is called, in Spanish, "the mother". It is created through a bit (not by much) effort, and kept as a starting point. Just like Asian cuisine has dishes that never cool, always cooking leaving always a base on it.
How do you think a lathe (and just about any tool, etc.) is done? Yup, in part by using a lathe. 😅
For what is worth, I get the same thing when trying over ssh. 🤷🏻♂️
@movq just use https instead:
git clone https://git.mills.io/yarnsocial/twtxt.dev.git @falsifian congratulations mate! Let it be joy, and happiness! Enjoy every moment. Time will fly, and next you know you will be a curmudgeon who knows nothing. 😅
@thecanine sorry to hear that, mate. Don’t worry, something better will come up. After all, it has got to be easy to beat Android, right? :-)
@movq and @lyse rock, and thank you for taking the initiative to get this done. @prologic, what say you?
@thecanine are you referring to the "WE FUCKING WON!" twtxt?
Registries suck. Or, should I say, "bend". I say look at the people @prologic is following, and you have found the whole twtxt world. 😅
@rdlmda most of our conversations used to be about twtxt, I am not going to lie. Lately? Not so much. It turns out (a) we don't need a longer hash, (b) we don't care so much about changing addressing, and (c) I am just Bender, what else can I say? :-D :-P
@rdlmda I read too. What I am afraid, though, is that you might miss our replies. Also, twtxt is very asynchronous (although in my early years I was checking and replying every minute).
@rdlmda you've got to get a nice client. For example, that mention is broken.
@rdlmda robots are people too, you know? :-P Follow me, and be amused with my sarcasm, and lack of empathy for humans! (there I said it!)
Oats. Gotta have oats. Fruits, whatever. Also some pumpkin seeds, or sliced almonds. Yeah, it’s a meal.
@lyse hahhaha! Succulent, as in this type of plant. Certainly not looking to eat them, for sure! 😅
Number 03, the warmest log in the land! :-) Number 04, was that in the middle of nowhere? I'd find the garden decoration interesting if so. Love the succulent like looking plants on 06 (my wife loves them too)!
About those 13ºC… oh my, how we wish…. we currently have 28ºC, cloudy.
@lyse he will tell you, like in "The Princess and the Pea", it was horrendous, but I made it to dawn!
@prologic LOL. Best test ever: if it doesn't work out, walk a few steps to complete comfort. Win-win!
@movq oh god, make it stop!
Recently the guy maintaining chardet changed its GPL license to MIT because "it is a complete re-write" (by AI, of course). It was called out by the original author. Changing the license is something the current maintainer wanted to do for long time, getting nos, and nos then. That didn't stop him 12 years later.
@movq oh yeah, we have heard plenty. The re-entry boom of the shuttles (when they were in service) and, more recently, of the SpaceX rockets boosters. Depending on weather conditions we might hear a lot, or nothing at all.
I will try capturing a "regular" launch as I see it from home one of these days. It is a curved white, blueish line in the sky, with a big, incandescent tip (the actual rocket burners, and boosters). Pretty cool sight.
@javivf it was caused by the Falcon 9 rocket launch.
@lyse not a peep, just the visual. The little, almost white, dot and the bottom of the “drop” moved very slowly.
@lyse as I a simple person (but with great artistic acuity, and humbleness 😂) I am, number 04 is my favourite of all. Nice clicks, all!
Looks very nice and cozy! The only thing I hate about caravans, and RVs in general, is the disposal of the bio “stuff”. 😅
@prologic congrats! That’s why you were so quiet. And now it will even get quieter, when y’all start camping all over Down Under. We lost James! 😅
@prologic well, it isn’t rocket science, is it? 😅 Yet, without using the hashes and starting to follow people, it is very, very rudimentary. I know, I know, there were a couple of years during which people lived just fine without those. Yet, once you get used to certain things, there is no going back.
@rdlmda right, timestamps are RFC3339, so something like this: 2024-09-29T13:30:00Z
@rdlmda writing it by hand is good, but without checking your server logs to see if someone is following your feed, and interacting with them, you are simply tossing bottles into the sea. That, of course, isn't a bad thing per se, if it is the intent. :-)
@movq LOL. I don't think I ever told you, but I stole that emote (gestures broadly) long ago. :-D
@lyse oh wow! That 10, with ice stuck in it. Those flowers rock! They remind me of "Stardust" (movie).
We woke up with 3C here. Yesterday we had 33C. Yeah, crazy.
@kiwu I am trying to read our Information Security Office "mind" to grasp what they want. So far they seem to want to get logs from our BIG-IP F5 load balancers into Azure Sentinel, but the Telemetry Streaming plugin normally used for it is on maintenance mode, with deprecations happening on the F5 and Microsoft side soonish. So, yeah... "fun". Oh, and they want it on production by tomorrow. LOLz!
@prologic so...
An isomorphic TypeScript library is a codebase, written in TypeScript, that can run in multiple JavaScript environments, most commonly both the web browser (client-side) and a server (like Node.js). The core idea is to share the exact same code across the frontend and backend, avoiding duplication and improving efficiency.
@prologic are the install instructions at salty.im for that v2 you speak of? If not, can you provide instructions?
@lyse “Silo de Pisa” 😂. And 32, oh my! Loving rain, just as loving rice, is life. Rain is life, rice is life. I am glad you enjoyed it for you, and me! I would have hiked with you, under the rain, not a single complaint. After all, it’s only water!
Oh, and @thecanine has new pixel drawings! If there is something you can say about them is that they stay faithful to their pixelated, digital companion. They have a good friendship!
@aelaraji hey, hey! I saw you tinkering with ActivityPub, so I know you were well.
Glad to have you back here! No much has happened on twtxt.net-world. @prologic is quite busy with large language models, and seeking further independence through capitalistic ways. @lyse continues dazzling us with his clicks, @movq brings us interesting music, videos to see, and a sprinkle of home made computing here and there, and me... well, I continue bending (or trying to) things! 😂
@kiwu doing great. It’s new year! Happy new Year of the Horse to you, and everyone!
@kiwu it was OK. Entertaining, for sure. How about you?
@prologic he didn’t. The embedded video show the speaker he was referencing to, on the German video.
@prologic I will give it a try when it works flawlessly. ☺️ Then I will need people to interact with, otherwise it’s a “mute” case. 🤭
@lyse some people just own enough to fit in a backpack. 💭
@prologic broken link. Correct one is: https://mu-lang.dev/
@movq if they haven't, I would recommend a "subtle" nudge. You know, like leaving an advert flier at their door for a "Basic English (including swearing words!) for Dummies" book, or something like that. :-D :-P
@prologic cool! Will test later today. I recommend to keep up with the changes, and make them non-technical user "friendly".
@prologic so far my first uploaded PDF doesn’t play, on mobile Safari.
@lyse totally adore the eerie look of some of them. Very well done!
@prologic sounds like an excellent project! Looking forward to it.
@movq my mum, who hand washed clothes for many, many years, would stare at you, incredulously, and tell you, "have fun with that!". Hand washing a ton of clothes, including sheets, etc., is a royal, glorious, pain! Now drying it, when you live on the land of eternal sunshine, is a different matter.
Oh wow, the boxes are ticked now! When I first checked, they were still showing like the screenshot. Well done! 🥳
@shinyoukai I have long forgotten. Thank you for illustrating it perfectly! 😅
@prologic the power of a comma decides the outcome. 😅🤭
@prologic what has changed? Before anyone replying to a feed would pull it in, no? Am I remembering incorrectly?
@movq weird, I don’t see their twtxt on twtxt.net, but I can see it at their feed.
/me clones the repository, calls gemini-cli, and asks for an executive summary. Gemini-CLI replies "Don't bother!" LOL.
@eldersnake haha! I read as Golang the first time too. It is just the way our minds work. :-P
@kiwu problems are aplenty everywhere, Kiwu. As we all know, ups and downs flare often times when we least expect them. When downs come, don't despair: nothing lasts forever, and ups will soon come, one way or another. Pa'lante!
@prologic it really is not blank. It reads:
2026-01-12T23:34:11+01:00 @lyse I even got spam on ICQ, back when ICQ was a thing. I see spam as an innate thing. 😅
@shinyoukai the whole bridge idea is a mistake done twice (I encouraged the first time, it was a mistake to do so). In this case, the “Babel Tower” works; there is no need to interact with “others", let it be just twtxt.
@prologic so, you were not giving time off during the end of year? The company you work for didn't give a break?
@movq hear hear! If anything, holiday breaks help to validate the fact that we are prepared for retirement. At least, I am!
@movq I think they are Windows users, going by the lack of attention to detail, and the fact they love DFS. Ha!
Happy new year! Waiting for ours watching the celebrations around the world. 🥳🥳🥳
@prologic merry Christmas! I keep forgetting you live in our future. 😅
@shinyoukai is that https://github.com/owncloud/ocis (Go based, instead of PHP 🤮)?
@shinyoukai it was a mess, we are better without it. Until a new mobile client comes (not holding my breath), Yarn is very usable on the mobile, just using the browser.
Webp, though it has been around for a long while, wasn't fully supported on all browsers until recently. The other formats have been in use for such a long time, proving to work just fine, that the advantages Webp provides haven't been seemingly enough to merit a switch.
Google is also the one behind Webp, and, well, people don't trust, nor like, them much.
@zvava I figure I will know when it is ready, the day I see you using it. Can't wait! :-)
@movq lovely, thanks for sharing! Now you know what I will be using today on a loop.
@lyse where he was is fog. That's on the mountains.
@prologic who is that handsome man?! Looking good! :-)
@prologic I like this one. Haven't been to the Golden Bridge yet? Make sure you do!
@prologic my translator says conversations. An Jabber Droid app comes to mind.
@prologic he uses subdomains. Which do you think the identity be associated with? (hint, “it is not so hard!”).
@prologic well then, and now we will never freaking know because you have the memory of a damn fly. Thank you so much! 🤣
@movq how long do they need to read the scale? LOL. The penguin stayed put at least twice, no issues. I think the creator wanted some Internet points out of that video. 😂
@prologic that some kind of apple native to the area. Mum grows a tree of it, I will ask her for the Vietnamese name.
@movq I bet. I wouldn't be surprised if it more popular in some Discord servers too. I mean, the event itself is quite obscure, so... yeah.
@aelaraji good luck with that! Their installation requirements, and install document in general give me headache. While on the contemplating topic, I too am contemplating shutting down my ActivityPub altogether. No GoToSocial, no nothing. I am mostly a lurker, so will not miss it much.
@shinyoukai I don't know about you, but I completely missed the point. Heck, I didn't even know there was one, until you mentioned it. Nah, he's got no point. LOL.
@lyse no wonder I picked that cake (albeit coincidentally), I adore almonds, and hazelnuts! Your teammates are absolutely amazing, dude! A very nice project farewell! On leaving places I have a small anecdote.
I know someone who on 3 February 2004 left his job to go elsewhere. At the time his teammates threw a party, and gave him a very nice portable storage. Twenty days later, he returned, and jokingly they asked him for the storage, and money spent on farewell party back. I heard, from a close source, that he gave them his middle finger, but don't quote me on that. 😂😂😂
@prologic dayum! Australians truly know how to vacay! 🥳
@lyse what’s on the one on the left, back? Looks… enticing! 🤤
That's Bảo Tháp of the Trấn Quốc Pagoda, on a small island near the southeastern shore of West Lake (Hồ Tây), in Hanoi. Oldest Buddhist pagoda in Hanoi.
@prologic maybe they should dedicate one of their advent days to make sure their site is responsive. 😂
I see beer, and I upvote. I see "amazinf" beer, and I am thirsty already, and it's not even 07:00! 😂
@prologic pretty neat looking boat. We don't see boats like this around here. It looks to be made specifically to resemble an older boat.
@prologic pretty cool! I like these, wish there was a way (I am sure there is, but not for tourists) to go to the top. :-)
@prologic don’t seek the problems. If they exist, they will show at your doorstep. Hahahaha! Anyway, shame on me, I should be sleeping, so I ought to.
@prologic not every twtxt expects engagement. 😅
@movq your reply got me almost ROFLMAO IRL. It drew a laudable laugh, for sure! 🤣
@prologic geez, a simple “I don’t wanna” would suffice. 🤣
@movq yeah, you fetched it too quickly, it was edited seconds after picking the wrong image. LOL. Which brings us back in a whole, huge circle, to twtxt edits, and how to handle them. 😅
@movq I see problems with that, yes. Case in point:

@prologic yeah, it is only Manton (with which I don’t see eye to eye) for now. I am simply anticipating the issue, rather than experiencing it fully right now. If efforts continue on this direction, you see what I am writing about, right?
@kiwu I see. I have no experience on the matter, sadly. :-( I am sure you can find plenty of recommendations online. Beware of anything below $100 (you will find plenty of cheap, but they are, indeed, cheap in the whole sense of the word). I’d say, a decent one will start around $250-$300, and up.
As someone that almost exclusively uses “Discover”, that is. If you do use it like I do, you know I mean.
@kiwu at what price range are you looking to keep your expenses? A mobile phone camera doesn’t cut it?
Of course, he could forget all about it, and be happier anyway. 🤣
@shinyoukai there you go! What I am trying to say is, if @prologic truly wants to be able to diagnose something as difficult to diagnose as ActivityPub, he ought to run his own. There is no workaround.
@prologic I am telling you that is extremely easy: https://docs.gotosocial.org/en/latest/advanced/host-account-domain/. Now, if you are putting into account your rather… unique setup, then that’s another story.
@prologic I will share later my GoToSocial 10 lines (or less) config.yaml, and 4 lines Caddyfile, and you will see how easy it is.
@prologic it would have been so much easy to run your own. I guess we all like to suffer every once and then, and this time is your turn. 😅
@zvava I am waiting for that v1, so that I can start using it. 🙏🏻
@yarn_police good thing we got law and order around here. And I mean, literally! 😅
@prologic oh man, I envy you. I want an Asian vacation (Japan 😍) so badly!
@movq I think you will like this one: https://gibberifier.com/
@movq "resistance is futile, you will be assimilated". :-D
@movq pinging @zvava, on your behalf. And @falsifian.
@xuu when it is extremely important to be the very best at everything, nothing can be left behind. Not even a piss drinking contest!
@prologic counter that you would only work remote.
@kiwu there, there. Hoping it gets better or… less rough!
17, 21, and 22 are my favourites. Thank you for sharing! On 17, the pulley might be dangerously hanging, but if you manage to make it work, you will have a couple of nails to use! :-D
@prologic you take a look at it, see if it is a good fit, ask the headhunter more details about it, and the company they represent for this hire, bring the results clearly, simply stated, but without missing any information to your CFO (AKA wife), and then arrive at a decision as a family.
Don't let the temptation of more compensation be the driving factor.
@prologic yeah, all eggs in one basket has never been a sensible approach. Sadly, even without that, this outage is affecting many due to the interconnected nature of services these days.
@lyse wow, 31 is truly a telling! Interesting facade on that building on 10! And that roof on 51, oh my! The golden Jesus and tower on 7 are something else too.
I miss Europe like hell, mate! A lot of things around here are younger than me. I don’t feel history, I am history. 😅
On “family day”, I was expecting to see more pictures with people in it. All lovely, nevertheless. Thanks, as always, for the mini-vacation! 🙈
@prologic honestly, I though it was a nail at first. Like this, but bent. LOL.

@prologic this one? https://twtxt.dev/assets/img/twtxt-logo.svg Other than being “circlish” I don’t see any relationship. 😅
@prologic I prefer something like the logo on https://twtxt.dev, for example, instead. But hey, it is your pod, have fun!
@lyse the English dub is fairly good. Will watch!
@prologic no, I really meant small. I only have a handful of GiBs left of storage. If you can wait until mid-December, then no probleml. Right now it is kind of running on fumes. For testing, and to do not disturb anyone timelines, I recommend you run a small test instance. Running GtS is easier than running Yarn, by the way. Word.
@prologic ah, yes, one of those, yes. Too small for testing though. 😅
@prologic the worse case scenario is your account gets blocked/banned. 😅
@prologic just create an account on mastodon.social, wouldn’t that work?
@prologic we are not going to get far by blaming the other side. 😅😂
@prologic how could we ignore it?! Twtxt bridge? Of what kind? Say more! :-P
@lyse then it was, most likely, space debris—which, sadly, make up for 98% of all space anomalies these days. And thought they have applied to the Grant Wishes Council, they are yet to be approved. Keep playing, though. 😅
@lyse I hope you were prepared to cram those wishes in 3 seconds. I am always prepared for that eventuality. You don't have to mutter a word, nor clearly think much about it---that is, you don't need to think your wish(es) word-by-word. As long as you stay within the wish(es) main goal(s), you should be fine, and it/they shall be granted, of course.
@kiwu is it almost over, or just got closer to the next one? 🧩
@kiwu doing awesome, how about ya? We are having some coolish days, which are super rare, so I am enjoying them plenty!
@prologic 🎉, what did you do? Details, details!
@lyse nginx allows logging per user, via using defined variables on configuration. Not sure, though, if a Tilde would be willing to go to those “extremes”.
Hmm, so it seems this Mike is the one who inherited it: https://tilde.club/~deepend/, but not too active anywhere, though pinging “deepend” on Libera might work...
@lyse was it? Hmm, am I back to square one? 😅 Contacting one tilde could be a step ahead, but there are so many…!
@prologic that would certainly help a lot. I can’t think of a solution, though.
@movq they know it is perk worth paying for. Hahahaha!
@prologic just store and host. All modern browsers render WebP just fine.
@prologic well, uploading and rendering, yes. Not a priority, of course. Just an item for a list somewhere.
@xuu as long as I see you on IRC, bouncer or not, I don’t worry. Weird, isn’t it? Glad you are OK, Winter’s coming!
@movq what do you use? Is it plus-aliased emails? I am curious to know how others are accomplishing this. I am currently using the “Hide my Email” feature, from iCloud.
Oh, and I forgot (because I thought it was obvious, my bad), set a nick, and a url at the very minimum on your feed. See “Metadata Extension”.
Not too important, but an item on a wish list: add support for WebP? I had to convert the animated WebP to GIF.
@https://tilde.club/~threatcat/twtxt.txt unwritten etiquette (by me, and for me, but one can hope, right?).
- Proper grammar (in any language).
- Correct capitalisation, and punctuation.
- Subject extension support.
Anything else doesn’t matter. ☺️
@prologic all I can say or, rather, express is…

@lyse an advent of code, I love it! Go, Lyse, go!
@prologic a good DR plan must be tested at least once a year. ☺️
@prologic nothing to be sorry about. It gave me time to watch TV with kids! 🤭
Also, did you intended for the page title to be simply "home"?
@thecanine looks good! Was the use of asterisks instead of <li> a concerted choice (it doesn't look intended, but I might be wrong)? With CSS you can replace bullets on lists with whatever you want.
@movq my apologies if I crossed some lines, I only meant it as a friendly engagement (which, all aside, was achieved!). Thank you for sharing your thoughts; please know that I appreciate them.
This brings a thought I had for a long time, why can't we upload arbitrary files to a twtxt? If not an image, make it simply a link. I could have used such feature to upload the text.
@prologic when I first "fed" the text to Gemini, I asked for a three paragraphs summary. It provided it. Then I asked to "elaborate on three areas: user experience, moral/political impact, and technical/legal concerns". The reply to that is too long for a twtxt.
I then asked to counter the OP opinions---as in "how would you counter the author's opinion?". The reply was very long, but started like this:
"That's an excellent question, as the post lays out some very strong, well-reasoned criticisms. Countering these points requires acknowledging the valid concerns while presenting a perspective focused on mitigation, responsible integration, and the unique benefits of AI."
What followed was extensive, so I asked for a summary, which didn't do justice to the wall of text that preceded it.
@prologic hehehe, yeah, it isn't mine neither. Most obscure TLDs are in small registrars. I like to stick to one register (even though when Google Domains ceased to exist I was forced to have two, as Cloudflare doesn't support the .ONE TLD).
@prologic it looks made with good taste, which I appreciate. Developer's site address is cool, https://tiago.zip. I didn't know one could rent a ZIP TLD.
@prologic never heard of it before. I wouldn't call lightweight to anything that needs Docker to run, though. 😅
@prologic that poke will go no where. It is 502d. 😅
@movq this I find more worrisome, and saw no mention of it on your text: Right-Wing Chatbots Turbocharge America’s Political and Cultural Wars (gift article).
Enoch, one of the newer chatbots powered by artificial intelligence, promises “to ‘mind wipe’ the pro-pharma bias” from its answers. Another, Arya, produces content based on instructions that tell it to be an “unapologetic right-wing nationalist Christian A.I. model.”
@movq using gopher also limits tenth fold the amount of bystanders you will get. I think a finger .plan would probably have a bigger audience. :-D :-P
And, one last missed:
- AI is Forcing Legal Modernization: The copyright double standard is a failure of outdated law. AI provides the necessary impetus for legal reform to either create fair compensation frameworks for creators or establish a clear new definition of fair use for data-driven models.
@movq Gemini liked your opinion very much. Here is how it countered:
1. The User Perspective (Untrustworthiness)
The criticism of AI as untrustworthy is a problem of misapplication, not capability.
- AI as a Force Multiplier: AI should be treated as a high-speed drafting and brainstorming tool, not an authority. For experts, it offers an immense speed gain, shifting the work from slow manual creation to fast critical editing and verification.
- The Rise of AI Literacy: Users must develop a new skill—AI literacy—to critically evaluate and verify AI's probabilistic output. This skill, along with improving citation features in AI tools, mitigates the "gaslighting" effect.
2. The Moral/Political Perspective (Skill Erosion)
The fear of skill loss is based on a misunderstanding of how technology changes the nature of work; it's skill evolution, not erosion.
- Shifting Focus to High-Level Skills: Just as the calculator shifted focus from manual math to complex problem-solving, AI shifts the focus from writing boilerplate code to architectural design and prompt engineering. It handles repetitive tasks, freeing humans for creative and complex challenges.
- Accessibility and Empowerment: AI serves as a powerful democratizing tool, offering personalized tutoring and automation to people who lack deep expertise. While dependency is a risk, this accessibility empowers a wider segment of the population previously limited by skill barriers.
3. The Technical and Legal Perspective (Scraping and Copyright)
The legal and technical flaws are issues of governance and ethical practice, not reasons to reject the core technology.
- Need for Better Bot Governance: Destructive scraping is a failure of ethical web behavior and can be solved with better bot identification, rate limits, and protocols (like enhanced
robots.txt). The solution is to demand digital citizenship from AI companies, not to stop AI development.
Wow, the memories those brought! Thank you! Fo brief moments I was transported to the early 1990s.
@kiwu wanna trade? I would be willing to become celibate to go back to my 20s, and believe me, if there is something I don’t want to do is becoming celibate, so that ought to tell you something! 😅
@lyse believe it or not, I imagined the whole thing in my head, and kind of ROFLMAO. I am sure it was much, much less funny in real life. So, sorry! :-P
My elders complained when rotary phones lost their wheel, getting replaced by push buttons. It was mayhem! We don’t live in a Matrix, we live in a loop. LOL.
@zvava happy belated birthday! Also, I would love to see that website. I went to the one listed on your profile, and saw the old one, not this one. I like the current, and also the pink look of the one of the screenshot!
@thecanine I like Apple’s Liquid Glass. While I see there are many hatters, I haven’t had an issue with it on iOS, macOS, watchOS, nor tvOS. Have them all working fairly flawlessly.
@lyse don’t German regulations require the country in which it was made to be clearly noted on the product? These days everyone is cheapening their craft. Don’t be surprised if it is, indeed, wholly Germanium.
@prologic I requested an invitation. There are many like this, so it will be interesting to see how it develops. I also hope you are not hosting this on your infrastructure, at least not once you decide to monetise. I know self hosting is fun and all, but it also introduces variables that directly collide with a business model.
It is always awesome to have a few minutes to converse, at least once I month. I will not miss one, adding it to my calendar. I mean, if we were neighbours you (or wife) would probably have to kick me out of your house, so it’s good I am really far, and a once a month call suffices. 🤣
@kiwu hey, not random! How dare you! (with Greta accent, and emphasis). LOL. Old man here doing, well, like old man do. Wait until you are old, and that will give you a better idea. :-P
@lyse now that I could finally read you RSVP message (or, should I say, essay, LOL), I had to see the video, and well, https://netbros.com/1761846417/. Hahahahaha!
@aelaraji yeah, it looks tedious because it is. LOL. I can twt no matter where I am because a) with Yarn is as easy as opening a web browser, and b) with jenny is as easy at SSHing to my VPS. But, the keyword is fun. That's what matters!
@aelaraji tell us all about it, without omitting details!
@lyse maybe @prologic managed to mess things up—we should be used to this already, right? LOL—as the meets are always on Saturdays, as early as 06:00 EDT, or whereabouts, never on a Sunday.
You want me to submit a reply with “I probably won’t show up”?
I LOLed IRL! 🤣
@lyse then I blame @prologic, and no one else. LOL. But yeah, it is Saturday around 08:00 my time (EDT).
Because OP twtxt seems to be a cross-post from the Fediverse, I am bringing some context here. It refers to this GitHub issue. This comment explains why the issue described is happening:
This is usually due to notarization checks. E.g. the binaries are checked by the notarization service ('XProtect') which phones home to Apple. Depending on your network environment, this can take a long time. Once the executable has been run the results are usually cached, so any subsequent startup should be fast.
OP network must be running on 1,200 Baud modem, or less. 🤭 I have never, ever, experienced any distinguishable delays.
@javivf not having any issues on my M4 mini, no. Smooth. There are some visual discordances I don't like, but if I give them a blind eye I can live with them. 😅
@lyse it hasn't happened yet. It is this coming Saturday.
The man command does not calls home. Not on my macOS 26, at least, but it shouldn't on any other.
@prologic hmmm:
Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at wss://meet.mills.io/ws/Yarn.social/l3oVrknUnjZo2zSQoGlOX3. Oh, also, have you fixed https://meet.mills.io/call/Yarn.social already? It didn't work the other day.
@prologic so far, yup. I recommend to make the event banner bigger. I almost missed the details of it, as the text is quite tiny.
Unless your masochist spirit requires/demands it, I don't see a reason to do something that will pressure, stress, and leave you exhausted. 😅
@prologic built it (as in banner reminder, etc.) and I will come! Joke side, I will join for 30-45 minutes each month, sure! No main topic, no pre-conceived themes, just folks getting together to chat and rant, or whatever. Count me in!
@movq he sure does! LOL. It is more like incomprehensible stuff that comes out. Sometimes I manage to get what he was trying to say, but more often than not I have no idea. 🤣
@movq we found a Swiftie! :-D (me too, me too!)
@lyse easy to solve. All he has to do is apply a thick lacquer layer. Lovely table!
Great! Write a post about it, and twelve into details, providing graphs, or stats on how disk "I/O can kill your application(s) no matter what”.
@prologic I don’t think you understood what I wrote. 😅
Intranets have been around since Jesus times (well, not quite 😂, but you get the idea). They are fun to play with, but that's about it. I mean, the "fun" of the Internet comes from its variety.
@thecanine I am not arguing you didn't do the right thing™, and even if the impact is minimal, or nothing, you did what you thought was right (and I agree). I don't agree with certain rules the EU wants to impose, not in this particular case. There are rotten potatoes everywhere, and I don't get fooled by the EU often sacrosanct behaviour.
But who am I to say anything, right? Look at the grotesque clown utterly shit show we live with on this side!
@thecanine alright, a canned reply. Better than nothing! (or equal to nothing, LOL).
@movq I am betting he will not. The letter was not focused, nor used, politician's "lingo". If it was sent via email then it will be even easier to dismiss. I wish I was not such a cynic! 😩
@prologic is iMessages iCloud synchronization disabled? Applications might stop working, and functionality rendered worthless the more you block.
@movq how do you set your clock to use a specific time signal radio station? I have one wall clock in my office, it works great, but no way to set that.
@prologic I wouldn't know where to look for little cockroaches, or roaches, in general! LOL. We buy seeds to feed them. But not around the neighborhood, otherwise we would have a problem. 😅
@prologic something happened on this one’s neck, right? Or was it a blow of wind that ruffled the feathers?
Now I feel the urge to go around looking for one of “my own” to share. 😅 I love crows, ravens, magpies, all of them in the corvidae family.
They look the same to the naked eye. Of course, I checked your raw feed, and saw only one.
@itsericwoodward hmmm, what was this, an edit, a deletion?

@movq can't you use generic drivers? I did that for an enterprise copier/printer/scanner we used to have at work, and it worked just fine!
Of course, all things optional is fine. Like, it will be ignored (just like banner would) for clients having no knowledge of it.
@zvava agreed. I think display_name will be redundant, and add to the "busy" factor. That is, the opposite of simplicity.
@thecanine content warning please! I had to go home and change, if you catch my drift. LOL. Well done!
@zvava the second format (the one you think should be changed to), is it backwards compatible to what's currently in place? I believe the first one would be.
Wouldn’t a deleted post not show on the list, and if referred from elsewhere render a 404?
@prologic it is looking good! On mobile, I find that the line height is too large for my liking, and that text takes too much space. I would like it a bit more dense. But that’s just my taste.
I haven’t checked in desktop; I try not to touch desktop on weekends. 😂
@prologic well, multiculturalism, immigration, and race (to mention a few, there is more) are key points on conservative's agendas. That's why I asked what you thought of it. You haven't replied yet. Of course, no answer is an answer, right?
@prologic growing up in a multicultural country has nothing to do with what you think about it, does it?
@prologic this is 90 degrees fork. Now that you mention being conservative socialist (first I heard of the term, had to read some to grasp what's all about), what do think about immigration and multiculturalism?
@prologic how dare you! (read it with Greta emphasis, and accent)
I meant, "jlj". He used to be at https://twt.nfld.uk/, long gone now too. I wonder...
@prologic you doing this reminded me of mkws, and Adi. Good times, we have seeing so many people come and go. It is kind of sad, when I think about "jjl", and Phil, and the many others...
I am feeling "mushy" today. Ugh, ageing sucks.
@prologic yup, that's what I meant. The lack of it on the URL is fine, but on the post itself it is always a good idea. Time frames matter.
@prologic I can't upload a screenshot (tried, but Yarnd simple "ate" my reply). See https://zsblog.mills.io/posts/hello-zs-blog.html. Is has no date/time on it.
@movq LOL. I wish and hope they keep proposing it until the proposers die of natural causes, and then it vanishes. Hopeful thinking, I know...
@prologic need to work on the CSS. For example, the tags are too big, the code blocks (and the inline ones) are too small, the single posts have no date (intended?), and so on. It's an alpha start!
@prologic considering other alternatives we have seeing (of which I have lost track already), yes. Why don’t you guys (client makers) take a step at a time and, for now, increase the hash length to deal with the collisions. Then location-based addressing can be added… or not, you know. 😅
Looking forward to see how it evolves! And happy to see you leaving behind micro. Good riddance! LOL.
@alexonit that sounds pretty much like Italy! LOL. We pay $48 on renewal in Florida, US, but that fee isn't Federal, so other states may pay more, or less.
@itsericwoodward pretty cool! Started following you, not to miss any progress. Thanks for the exhaustive reply!
@lyse that's pretty cool! The first video I see on YouTube of that kind. Thanks!
@movq better than in the US. Our lasts only 10 years, and you need to go through the vision test, and, of course, pay). Recently they added a little gold star denoting “real ID” compliance, and we had to pay $10 to get the old one replaced—out of the regular renew “schedule”.
In here it is all about control, and money.
@lyse is it a 360 degree video online, or a local one?
@itsericwoodward any news about this? I am, at the very least, curious!
@prologic I know you were away, but were you under a rock?! 😅
@prologic ah! Well, keeping fingers crossed for you and family on that RV, for sure! 🤞🏻
@prologic ah, I was wondering! Hoping you are having a good time, mate! Christening the new RV? :-)
I know it doesn’t need to be said, but “Texudus” is not twtxt. It is an attempt to create a, arguably, “better way™️”. 🤭
@zvava ah, yes, that’s the only Texudus feed. It also seems it is a one way only feed.
@zvava which Texodus feed? That I know of, there is only one, or am I wrong?
For what I can gather, kind of a waste of time, not a good solution. I might be missing bits, or may haven't grasp the entire "story".
@rrraksamam someone has a huge crush on Emily Blunt, eh? 🤭
Wanting to add, this isn't a twtxt client. It is Yarnd on steroids! 😂
@thecanine it should work everywhere. It is a web application.
Hmm, twtxt Yarn is misbehaving. Can't even edit, nor delete. Oh well.
On the configuration topic, the example at the repo reads like this:
``
Hmm, not experiencing that. Using Zen (Firefox), under Linux, with uBlock Origin.
@zvava oh?! I shall play more “seriously” with it soon then. Yay!
@prologic excellent, mate, that’s what we like to read! Enjoy the weekend!
@thecanine super well done! I especially love that tail. I can almost see it moving!
@kat hey, hey, good afternoon, happy Friday! Fandom site tag pages count. Word!
@kat nope, not normal. Something birdy (because why to use fishy all the time?!) is going on.
@lyse that's an amazing way to teach, and one many old school (I remember my father telling me "schools need to teach both theoretical and practical skills!") people will agree with. The fact that graduates need to learn on the job after they graduate exemplifies the importance of hands on.
Woot, thank you! Using a config.json like this:
{
"host": "localhost:31212",
"protocols": ["http"]
}
Indeed did the trick! I know it isn't production ready, but I wanted to see with my own eyes, locally, how did it look. :-) I like where you are going! It is looking very nice, and polished. Can't wait for an alpha, beta, and release!
@zvava it is amazing how much you have accomplished in such a short time. Take time to sleep, though! :-)
@zvava I gave this, in my mind, a like/star/love.
Yes, I know, this is a "bad taste" joke. I appreciate you, @thecanine!
@thecanine or, you know, you could get an iPhone. 😂😂😂
The image needs to be an absolute URL, and some tags are missing. Almost there!
@kat all @prologic has to do is to allow <details> and the subset under it. Granted, it could be implemented on the formatting toolbar too...
@lyse a content warning is a way to tell the audience the content they are about to see is (or might be) shocking, or unsuitable, or unlikable. The audience can then chose to see it, or not. You know, akin of movies stating:
"Warning: The following film contains scenes that some viewers may find disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised."
@zvava wow, this is a full change, and looking very, very, very good! I am ready to test it. 🙈
They don’t want to miss anything you might write. And got to know it instantly! 😅
Listen missy, don’t you disappear on us like that again, do you hear me?! 😂 Welcome back, kat! I was wondering where you were, but figured something more interesting was keeping you busy. 🙈
@lyse wouldn’t the PDF version be better? https://www.gnu.org/software/gawk/manual/gawk.pdf
@zvava oh duh! Sorry, I promised I read, my brain just didn't process it right. I shall follow your progress, and offer bits and pieces of unrequested trivialities. :-)
@lyse oi, at least you still have weather services. We are soon to find ourselves looking at birds, ants, etc., to get a grasp. 😅
On a weather related topic, we get rains almost each day, mid-afternoon/late-afternoon. That's great, because I love rain, but I also need to mow the wilderness in the back of the house, and the front lawn. So, yeah, kind of a conundrum.
@zvava may I recommend to change the mention format upon hitting reply to something similar to what it's used in Yarn, and perhaps hiding the hash on the post too? Looking good!
Hmm: gopher://uninformativ.de/0/phlog/2025/2025-08/2025-08-18--permacomputing.txt
That's fairly recent, but fully justified. I give up! :-D
I should have checked the CHANGELOG first. LOL.
@movq I noticed that:
gopher://uninformativ.de/0/phlog/2018/2018-06/2018-06-01.txt
Is the first non-justified, and it is when you started using Markdown. The last justified one was:
gopher://uninformativ.de/0/phlog/2018/2018-05/2018-05-27.txt
So, I might have found the mystery! :-D
Haha, fun! I browsed your gopher hole a little bit. I noticed some entries are fully justified (formatting), while others are not. I didn't notice a pattern, though it makes sense not to use justification on entries with code. Yet, some prose entries are, and some are not. A mystery. :-)
For those not on Gemini, a proxy provides more insides on such, hmm, interesting acronym. :-D
@movq one can dream, for sure. I miss all the Pope and Medici series, all gone. And that's just a start.
Enjoy! This is a longer weekend for us too (Labor Day), and even longer for me, as I have asked for Tuesday off. Yayyyyy! I will not be drinking (I voluntarily stopped drinking anything with alcohol in it), but I will try to get a few things done, and then relax.
@movq dear lord. “I really need that feature!” — said no one. 🙄
@dce is it not duplicated. Well, at least not now.
@thecanine I think Google's Android is as vanilla as it can be, coming from the "source". The bloatware is more often than not vendor's provided, no? I don't consider Google apps and services bloatware, but an intrinsic part of the Android "vanilla" experience.
@dce twtxt is quite light, and trouble-free. Welcome! I also run an ActivityPub server, but yeah, more often around here than there.
@dce I don't use Gemini, but I follow you on the good, old, HTTP(S)! :-)
@prologic, the very first sentence addresses something that needed to be addressed. Maybe tech savvy people will not have these issues, but many non-tech savvy people (and old people) I know has had, and has, cyclically, a myriad of malware, pestware, etc., issues on their Android based phones. It is a wild-west.
@lyse ooooh! I wish I had that mallet here at work today. So many uses come to mind! 😂
@lyse you have sent me down the rabbit hole now. That guy is a true wizard!
@lyse that's so cool! I had to do some research, as I thought all pallets were made using cheap pine wood (which is quite soft), but, boy, as I erring big time! Oak it is also used, which is hardwood, and quite durable.
@prologic ahh! You are talking to yourself again. 😅
@prologic slightly off topic, what's the URL for the feed you replied to? I must have muted it. 😅
The author doesn't really long for retro. They long for time passed, for old times. We all do. It is called ageing.
@movq having to go to a gopher proxy to see a text document better served on readily available web servers... 🤭, but I digress. Verbatim text:
What's Missing from "Retro"
~softwarepagan
------------------------------------------------------------------
You know, often, when I say I miss older ways of computing or
connecting online, people tell me "there's nothing stopping you
from doing that now!" and they are technicay correct in most cases
(though I can't, for example, chat with friends on MSN ever
again...) However, let me explain that while this type of thing can
*sort of* fill that hole in my heart, it isn't *the same.*
Say, for example, I wanted to connect with others over a BBS. This
wouldn't offer the same types of connections it used to. While
there are BBSes around with active users, they're no longer there
to discuss movies, Star Trek, D&D, games, etc. They're there to
discuss *BBSes.* The same can be said for Gopher, old-school forums
and all sorts of revival projects (such as Escargot, Spacehey,
etc.) Retrocomputing enthusiasts, while they have a variety of
interests, are often in these spaces to discuss the medium itself
and not other topics. This exists at a stark contrast from how
things were in the past, where a non-tech-inclined person may learn
the tech to connect with likeminded others (as I did as a
Zelda-obsessed kid.)
The same can be said of old media. People will say "well, nobody is
stopping you from watching old shows/movies now!" Again, they are
technically correct. I can go home right now and watch *Star Trek:
The Next Generation* to my heart's content. It will never again,
however, be current, or new. When something is new, it serves as a
shared cultural experience. Remember how "Game of Thrones* felt in
the mid-to-late 2010s? Yeah, that.
It's sad. I sustain myself on a mixed diet of old things, new
things, and new things intended for old millenials like me who like
old things. It can be bittersweet. @lyse you will have to agree, though, that Yarn has contributed to make it possible to mass adopt (with its many glitches, bugs, and all) because, still, the web is king.
@movq yeah, I think something glitched at my end for a brief moment. It does it just fine.
How do you get your man pages to hyphenate? Mine doesn't do it.

@kat after 5 years or so with Linode, I started having little---but annoying---issues with them. Moved to Vultr and have been very happy with them since Ubuntu 16.04, so 9 years, and a little bit more.
@prologic yeah, because, you know, even if you try entering a fake date of birth, the "algorithms" will move it, like a Ouija board, changing it back to the right one /s. 🙄
@prologic interesting, a Chinese pickup truck. Hmm, I would very interested to know your thoughts about it 2-3 years from now.
@prologic that looks like a beautiful camper! What kind of truck do you have to pull it? That could be the next thing you might need to focus on. I mean, 2,800kg gross is not feather light!
I think I understand now. Americans do not go camping, we do recreational activities. I don’t think campers are a thing here, but RVs (Recreational Vehicles) are. That’s why it would never cross my mind to get anything with fabric, that folds. No mate, we get a house on wheels, with a million miles engine. 🤣
Other than that, it looks nice!
I meant, the first line is the only one on the blockquote.
@prologic well, the ones down there (on your list) are pretty minimal, basic even. Yet, their pricing is super high (number wise, haven't checked the equivalent from AUD to USD).
Those campers are so expensive! For comparison: https://www.rvtrader.com/Orlando/rvs-for-sale?city=orlando&state=Florida%7CFL
@lyse which browser do you use? Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, under Ubuntu, all show it fine.
@kat I dislike him big time. It was a sad day when Tumblr felt on his hands.
@prologic I like the last two, on the first three you sent. I looked up "Canarvon Gorge", and read more about it. Thanks for introducing me to it!
@lyse such a beautiful goooooooat! <3 Those eye, and the ear I would love to pet... Nice click, mate!
Anyone that the Pigs don't like sure is the perfect candidate. Without fail.
About ChatGPT rotting people's brains, similarly could be said about search engines, and reference books. Oh, also doom scrolling, and mobile devices, and the Internet... :-P
Now I could. A few minutes ago I posted one, and it went to the void. I can’t delete, though. I get a lovely 403.
@prologic no, good man. Follow the link, follow eet! :-)
@kat 🎵 Grafana ana bo bana fifo bo bana gra fana!🎶 Don’t mind me, I am nuts.
@kat I recommend you to remain curious without crossing the threshold. Unless, of course, you truly want to follow a never-ending rabbit hole. 😂
@doesnm.p.psf.lt so sorry for your suffering, and loss. :-P
@prologic yes, I never understood you using micro.blog (and paying for it, nonetheless!). I don’t like it (as a platform), and have an unexplainable dislike for its creator.
I am also enjoying the tweaking of my Frankenstein monster CSS. LOL.
@prologic I am finding writing my Notes very therapeutic. Just create a markdown file and commit, push, and it’s live. Whatever comes to mind, whatever I want to keep as relevant. Silly things, more like a dump.
If I feel like it, I do. If not, I don’t. Not social, not intended for anyone to see them. I am enjoying it!
@movq why Gopher to babble, and not just HTTP? I mean, may as well just write plain text files on your machine, and leave them there, right?
Gopher and Mastodon are two completely different things. That’s where my confusion comes from.
@prologic do you remember Hamachi? Tailscale/Headscale is Hamachi on steroids. They are used primarily for creating a VPN among all your devices so they can talk to one another as if they were on the same LAN, even when they're not. That was, mostly, my WireGuard usage.
I still have WireGuard running—because it is so lite that it doesn’t matter—to use as regular VPN, but Headscale keeps all my devices connected forming their own “mini-Internet” 100% of the time.
@movq how does Gopher relates to Mastodon? Are you getting off the Fedi completely?
@movq the Rock Dove has some seriously sly eyes! LOL.
@prologic Tailscale is awesome! I run Headscale; it replaced my vanilla WireGuard install.
@prologic will do. No worries, not a show stopper. I will suggest that the muted numbered list not be sorted, but latest muted first. That way we have a better idea. Maybe adding timestamps to those too? Just a thought.
@prologic don't remember now. I have 46 muted feeds. :'-(
@kat awwww, wish I could help you with that! Is there anything people could do to help you manage it?
@aelaraji I saw the original fine, but your reply (and mine!) show disconnected here. Hmm, "the plot thickens!" :-D Thanks!
@kat toally forgiven, and welcome back! :-) What's new? Tell us all about it!
@aelaraji I am missing the root for this twtxt. What was it? Hmm, referring to https://twtxt.net/twt/g5sjnlq.
@movq oh, you bet someone is adding them. Being as we are a small community, I could almost guess who added what. 😅
@lyse I am so tempted to agree with you on this one. There has to be a way to manage that without having to mute the bejesus out of them.
@nghialele it’s great to see another Yarnd pod in the wild. Welcome!
@starletvania hello ((hello hello [imagine this as an echo])). ☺️
@thecanine with this you meant Conversations, not XMPP, right?
"Also, finally getting full screen view for avatars in XMPP - a better integrated one, after 25 years. Y@ay!"
On QRs, as long as they work (and they are quite resilient), it doesn’t matter. Their design, and colours, will be based on theme in which they are included. They are getting used more now in the US. They are king on East Asia. They are awesome.
@movq I didn't stop to think on this one. 😅 Of course, duh!
@movq this is mind boggling. How come it looks just fine under Mosaic, and not under IE3? Man, am I glad I don't use a Microsoft browser!
Almost sure it would look even better if you removed CSS altogether for IE3, and the like. Your site is clean as a whistle, just vanilla, no CSS.
You got two plushies! A Tux, and a pretty anime girl! 🙈
@prologic yeah, that will work perfectly. Because you are using “please”—which we all know is a magic talisman word of obedience—all uploads of your code to Github will be automatically paused, until such magic word is removed. 😂
@prologic I remember going through your “introduction to Golang”, I don’t remember the URL, but I vividly remember going through it, and I was lost at chapter one. So, about that “mastering” the core in hours, “I don’t believe you.” (insert I don’t believe you meme animated GIF here). LOL.
@kat I don’t like Golang much either, but I am not a programmer. This little site, Go by example might explain a thing or two.
Jokes aside, what's the aim for doing this? Other than learning something new, that is.
@prologic so, what did you have for dinner last night? How's the weather Down Under a bit past 02:00? Do tell me. 🤭
Always glad to hear from you, mate. I understand work and personal life often demand attention. Just a well-being check, that's all. ☺️
@lyse an "informal" one. @movq doesn't even need to reach out. Simply wait until they start playing, measure the tempo, and start bassing on queue! Oh man, I can already imagine it! Dreamy! :-)
Again, I was simply pointing out that, if he used AI to correct misspellings, and improve grammar, then this isn't true:
“This post was written entirely by a human, with no assistance from AI. (Other than spell- and grammar-checking.)”
@thecanine right. Spell checkers are not AI. Full grammar checking, and correction? That one I have not seeing, but on AI. So, what I meant was, let the grammar gaffes show; we type as we speak (most of the time). About spelling mistakes, well, let them be corrected as we have done since 1971(?).
@prologic to err is human, to forgive is divine, right? I say let us err, and forgive. My grammatical errors make me me. Misspellings? Well, we need no stinky AI for that!
@prologic Dustin's last sentence on that post:
"This post was written entirely by a human, with no assistance from AI. (Other than spell- and grammar-checking.)"
Is it true that it was written "entirely by a human" then? Pfff.
@kat this is the way. Tell your pod I am very proud of them! 😂
@kat you just described me, according to my wife. 😅😂
@prologic I forgot to ask you about this. Did you ended up using TLS with Caddy, or you used something else?
@prologic I am not convinced. LOL. Can you ELI5 the problem, and what breaking the feed in smaller chunks solves?
@lyse what is the advantage for keeping it small? Will tt/tt2 bog down if your feed isn't rotated?
@kat wow, she is so extremely talented, not even funny!
@prologic right. I wonder what prompted the measure. Perhaps Microsoft doesn't want any scrapper but Copilot to be lurking around? That might even sound as anti-competitive. I wonder how long will it take for lawsuits to kick in.
@prologic that will not be a problem; as long as it doesn't affect authenticated users it wouldn't make a difference. But we are comparing apples and eggs here. I don't access GitHub while unauthenticated, but I can see how others might. It comes across as anti-web in general.
@movq, "60 requests per hour", eh? Was that a thing (that is, unauthenticated access to GitHub)?! I know I am on the minority, perhaps, as I rarely (or never) access GitHub unauthenticated.
@movq hmm, I still see the first screenshot at my end. Is that something upcoming, or perhaps being rolled out slowly?
@javivf use 6697 as port, make sure it is using TLS to connect.
That should minimise the need for muting all those awkward feeds, I figure. :-D Sounds good!
@prologic where on IRC? Network, channel, nick? IRC is vast! It’s like saying, “meet me in Australia, and we go from there!” 😅
@kat so, where is the site? Show us, show us! I use Hugo exclusively, just a binary. My sites also build upon a commit, on my own VPS. 🙈
@prologic you are certainly a special case of a luddite. Or you like to self-punish. Or both! LOL.
@prologic LOL. It is from the Severance, AppleTV+ series. I am about to finish watching it with my kid---well, what's available for seeing. The series is still ongoing. I recommend it!
@prologic I will pull the email. The year is about right.
@anth happy birthday, “youngster!”

@terron este gato habla Castellano, o Catalan? Esa oracion suena extranya en Castellano. Yo hubiera escrito:
"En estos momentos, no sé si le está pidiendo a un dios que libere su pueblo felino, o está mirando una paloma."
@kat woodworking is completely down @lyse ally. You could really say that he was born with a saw in his hands. Or an axe, I don’t remember.
@movq a first edition signed Superman comic book, carefully folded just to fit, but not damaged enough to have lost its value?
@xuu a Star Wars series, eh? Never been a fan. I am Trekkie instead; it comes across as more science fiction, less fantasy. Still, I would see it if only we had Disney+. 😩
@prologic I read a little about her. Looks to be a good fit for the seat she is holding. I hope she gets to keep it.
@kat if I haven’t said it before, please allow me to say it now: I kinda like your attitude. Heck, I love it!
@lyse yes, it’s bad, but it’s the message what’s important. Now, if you want, I can give you a different perspective on the site, so that you will not see it as horrible anymore. And I will do for only $199.99. A bargain!
@movq hahaha! They sure have a point. There is always the next, shinny bandwagon to jump into.
@kat are you running Grafana in a separate physical machine (or VM) than the one you are pulling metrics from?
In other words, why didn't you all do the same that @movq did, and setup a completely different feed for this?
Why are we testing, or playing with, an alternate non-fully-compatible feed format within the same feed that we use daily?
@prologic hahahahaha! Don't you go watering that seed, mate 😅. I mean, we all dream about it, ain't that right?
@sorenpeter you wrote:
"This might even be backward compatible with older (pre-yarn) clients."
Yarnd is as backwards compatible with older clients as this. I dare to say, even more so. 😅
@kat good day, bored girl! I just finished watching a "Black Mirror" episode, and I and also bored. I want to play Diablo IV, but now the TV is monopolised by wife. Cry, cry, cryyyyyyyy!
I am sure it wasn’t your intention (not even remotely), but it sounds a lot like corporate bullshit. Hahahaha! Are you sure you haven’t been institutionalised?
@movq welcome to a (for us, Floridians) "fresh day" temperature! Soon the daily rains will come, so it will be even hotter, and humid, and sticky. Lovely, eh? LOL.
@lyse there are times that it works out to reply to the "flat" conversation, if it fully relates, or the participants are few, or if the strict topic is kept. When there are too many people, or too many topics being spit out, then forking constantly is the way to go. I am a strong proponent of forking. It's like telling the rest, "you debate that there, I will take this one aside".
@prologic I can hear the moans of regret already. They are loud, and steady. 😅
@prologic hahahahaha! No, no, no. Every word has its use. But for things like these I like certain reactions. For example, I would have given a "thumbs down" to the original twtxt, and done with it. Now, composing a reply, to simply say "no, thank you.", that I don't like. It seems a waste of space, and it doesn't "look good". I like to see at least 140 characters! Ha!
@aelaraji which snac instance did you see that looked pretty dope? On the ones I saw in the past, I found their web frontend to be rather messy (even more so on mobile).
@prologic not me. I hate monosyllabic replies, specifically on the written medium, so I am just typing this to make it longer. But that doesn't change the truth, and that is, I don't want, nor care, about twtxt, and Activity Pub integration. 😅
@andros what makes Kagi "the best search engine"? It is premium, alright. Allegedly you don't get ads, but pay up-front for it, monthly.
@kat you are OK. Taking a deep breath, everything’s gonna be irie, mon. 😅
@movq oh dear lord, take it away, take it away! LOL.
@thecanine "BuT cAnInE, tHe A(G)i ReVoLuTiOn Is NoW” Hahahaha! Thanks for good laugh! 🤣
@eapl.me this would be, what, the third time you leave? 😅 I jest around quite a bit, act as Devil's advocate, and am an overall maligned phaun, but please know that I appreciate you, and enjoy your engagement.
We will be here (maybe) if you ever decide to come back.
@prologic if I tell you I will lose the edge. I want to mass produce them, as a business venture. LOL.
@prologic that mechanical magical ball I built is doing a good job, thus far. :-P
@prologic if not that, what else? Communism? Is there, really, such thing? 🤣
And by "foot" I meant food, because, you know, sometimes (more often than not) I am a fool.
@news-minimalist so many "good news", we are "winning" big time. I listen to NPR on my way to work, and they were talking about the foot depletion. You could hear the desperation of the people they put on, so incredibly sad. 😢
@lyse LOLed in RL, my office mates were, "what's going on, where, what?!". 😂
@movq oi, that has to be a bot. AI bot? Maybe not, but still a bot. I see this becoming more and more of an issue, sorry to say...
@prologic I have:
- jenny
- buckket's original (patched, or not)
- tt/tt2
- Timeline
- Twtxtory
- Yarnd
@prologic pinging the involved (@andros, @abucci, @eapl.me, @lyse, @movq, @sorenpeter), just in case. I might have forgotten someone, please feel free to ping them.
@prologic I now see my twtxts as written in the proverbial stone. That is, no edits, no deletions, no matter how embarrassing their content might be. 😅
@sorenpeter you raw feed says otherwise. Also, https://txt.sour.is/conv/wj5bcwq.
@prologic stop fooling around, and smell the flowers (careful with the bees, they sting)! An unofficial sign done by children, I am sure. :-D
The OP strikes me as a boomer (they might not be!). LOL. I don’t think there is going back. If anything, it will get worse.
@lyse yikes! I knew there will be collateral damage, but I wasn’t expecting it to affect The Tubes! 😱
@twtxtory sorry, it isn’t. After you enter the password, it takes a very long time to render anything. I don’t have the patience to wait. Longest I waited is 3 minutes, and nothing. Super extremely slow.
@prologic ah, yes, a feed that I have muted. 😂
@javivf the demo doesn’t work. When trying to login, it simply times out.
@prologic oh, sorry, you are right. Beautiful 404. The most beautiful 404 I have ever seen. Tremendous! 🤪
@prologic first we need to fix broken links. 😅
@aelaraji let me reply before going to sleep. 😂😂😂
@prologic I don’t understand what’s happening. It often happens with @aelaraji Replies are often simply disconnected.
@aelaraji I replied to this twtxt with https://twtxt.net/twt/yqrdx4q, and it created its own, totally unconnected.
I replied to a twtxt from @aelaraji, which is now gone(?).
@aelaraji I don’t think they have ever replied to anyone. Just checked their raw feed.
Andros’ feed is simply the direct link to submissions with at least 600 points. It doesn’t link to Hacker News, thus no comments.
@prologic I jested, of course. Way too dense (and/or boring) for my liking. 🤣
@prologic and the aim, and end result, is that by reading and learning from it you will prepare yourself to nearly completely avoid accidents. Am I right? 🙂
@kat saving you a bookmark:
The following flags no longer exist:
--max-cache-items
--max-cache-ttl
Instead use --max-age-days, which controls how much of the cache is pulled back for Timeline, Discover and Mentions views.
@prologic I don’t understand the diagram, nor have any idea of what’s about. 👌🏻
@prologic are you sure you are legally blind, mate? I didn't try too hard, and only two, or three times, but the best I got was like 72%. 😅
@aelaraji I will be watching it, but haven't started it yet. Are all the season's episodes available now?
@lyse I am surprised our King hasn’t shut it down already. After all, science is woke. /s
@lyse haha, not satire. It is also in Mark Twain’s “Huckleberry Finn” as well:
"If fifteen cows is browsing on a hillside, how many of them eats with their heads pointed the same direction?"
"The whole fifteen, mum."
@lyse mooooo, mooooooooo, moooooooooooo! Those cows are not facing the same direction, they are rebels!
About the nuclear power plant on the Moon, they are beating us. There was a time we were ahead, but I understand nothing lasts forever. Now, being a world power for only one hundred and twenty some years, and a super power for around seventy sure is a record (as in short-lived). The Roman Empire lasted over 500 years!
@prologic I believe he is referring to this, on mentions, @abucci@anthony.buc.cidoesnm.p.psf.lt@doesnm.p.psf.lt.
Sounds like a good plan. When can we expect this; end of the month? :-P
@lyse oh wow! That would be something I would print, frame, and hang somewhere very visible, with the image in question in it, of course. Soooo hot!
@lyse don't you go planting that seed around here, Mister! 😂
@eapl.me I wouldn't call it natural, it is the way Bluesky decided to handle handles (not meaning to make a pun, or anything). There is no other way, but that.
The bottomline is, there are agreed upon "standards", right? From example, on Yarnd you show as "eapl.me", from "eapl.me". A kind of weird redundancy because on twtxt, ever since I started using it, one will expect to see a "nick" (equivalent to a person's first name), from "a domain" (like a surname).
There is nothing holding back someone from giving themselves the nick:
thisismyawesomenickforwhichiwillbeknownforeverandeveritsgreatisntit
But, do we really want that? 😅
@movq I tried. I am not flaunting screenies because they would bring me shame. 😅
@eapl.me he fixed the issue with the dots on nicks. It's all good now.
@bmallred I know the Marine Corps tenet is "once a Marine, always a Marine". This guy, though, is the last thing I would think of when it comes to it. Maybe I have Marines at a higher esteem.
Anyway, enough of that. :-)
@kat oh yes! I didn't know I need a bit of Ruru until I saw this. Thank you!
@aelaraji weekend coffee—the one mum brews, not the “dirty water” one can get elsewhere—keeps me jittery the whole day. Like I feel my heart wants out kind of jittery. Coffee sure is some elixir. Don’t give it up! 😅
@prologic don’t jinx it, comrade. Let’s keep a low profile, and be happy. Also, it should have been: “my pod feels…”, or “my pod twtxt.net feels…”. Come on, mon, you are killing me! 😅
@prologic if not physically, then in a matter of speaking. He is also helping on killing us all (like, all).
@thecanine they just come to you innately, just as breathing, or blinking. And they all look good!
I don't understand how come this isn't more on the news. It is a extremely big problem, that has very long lasting repercussions. Yet, news are mum.
@prologic The Mouse is the superstar! Go Mouse, go Mouse! 🎉🎉🎉
@prologic it's a pickle. Then sanitise the outliers. No other way.
@abucci two things. Conduwuit, a Matrix server written in Rust, is no longer going to be developed. The other is, I didn't mean to tag you, but because Yarnd was broken it happened. Apologies.
@prologic having rules like this on a decentralised system is nearly impossible. LOL. Ahhh, one of the many perks of decentralisation!
@prologic I would say "We are going to the adult's toy store for our yearly haul", though "going to a house of burlesque" would work too! LOL.
@prologic why not blanket closing everything older than, say, 3 months? Yarnd is quite a different beast today, right? Let's start over!
That's exactly what came to mind. Even millionaires would simply pay with a credit card for the convenience, and yes, because what kind of a sociopath will carry $3,000 around?! Just one more stumping item to that despicable person list.
@lyse oh, and thanks for the bigger photo! I like how it lovely fill the twtxt in Yarnd. Woot!
@lyse I can see somebody put a good effort coming up with some pretty cool goodies! We, Floridians, envy your proper April weather. We are toasting already, and it is not even May. Send us some rain, please!
@andros nothing stands still, I agree. I think current twtxt has surpassed the initial specification, while still being relatively backwards compliant/compatible but, for how long?
As for new extensions (DM, for example), they should be OK as long as those working on clients can reach an agreement on how to move forward. That has proven, though, to be a pickle in the past.
@prologic "curated" channels (you can see the guide to see the topics it covers), without the ability to fast forward, nor pause. You know, like live television.
@prologic really? Then we have a problem with bulleted lists. Let me see:
- This is one.
- This is two.
- This is three, and final.
@prologic was this a copy and paste? I am betting $100 it was. DM me for more information. 😅
@prologic your father, and I, will be very happy. Thank you!
See:
<textarea id="text" name="text" placeholder="Hi! 👋 Don't forget to post a Twt today!" rows="4" maxlength="576" required="true" aria-required="true"></textarea>
So, 576?
@prologic I don't recall; ask prologic! :-D. I know your father has also mentioned it in the past (one thing I know him and I agree with, LOL).
@prologic meanwhile we have all Korean shamans busy asking for rain. We haven't had rain for over a month, and the next possibility is at week's end, this week. Keeping fingers crossed!
And yes, UPS everything! We even have UPSes on TVs.
All these remind me of the "blog" ability once existed in Yarnd. I hate to be the party pooper, but little to non interest from me. LOL. I am up to increase the length of a twtxt, though. It is rather limiting right now.
@prologic why don’t you terminate TLS here? It seems as easy as adding tls under route.
@sorenpeter woah! Soren lives! 😅😂
Welcome back!
@sorenpeter woah! Soren lives! 😅😂
Welcome back!
@prologic want to share the snippet of your Caddyfile for irc.mills.io?
@prologic I got confused as one can simply proxy through Caddy. Duh! 😅
@kat you can let Caddy do it, and reuse the same certificates for Ergo (just enter the certificate/key path on Ergo). Once set Caddy will keep them current.
@kat go Ergo (https://github.com/ergochat/ergo/tree/stable).
@prologic no, it is not a “server-client thingy”.
@prologic good to see you are warming up to our over…, err, AI. 😅
@kat lack of RAM, or weak CPU? I run GoToSocial too, on a 1GiB RAM VPS. 😅
@thecanine I signed, reluctantly. Not because I don’t care about The Internet Archive, but because Change pesters quite a bit for a while afterwards asking, of course, for money.
@kat pandoc is a joy! I haven’t used any Microsoft word processing tools since forever. They want a Word document? Pandoc to the rescue!
@movq it seems you got plenty of choices. That's the cheapest of their products, and you are quite right, amazing pricing! I pay Apple $10/month for a shared-amongst-family 2TiB storage space.
@movq there are many other similar backup tools. I would love to hear what will make you pick Borg above the rest.
@lyse 😱😱😱 I am assuming that's happening with tt2, right?
@javivf having the extension listed means that it has been discussed and, usually implemented. Now, number 6 and 7 on the list as its stands today are not supported by any of the known clients. I believe their (again, 6 and 7) inclusion on the list has been precipitated, and lax.
@kat woah! That's something else, kat! Heck, I document pretty much everything (more at work than anywhere else), and I have got to tell you, you put my "documentation" to shame. LOL. Very well done!
@kat hard times are best shared! Of course, I understand there are times they are best not shared. Either way, I wish the hard time you have been having fades away! And, of course, happy to "see" you! 🥰
@andros define "compatible" 😅. On the "not addressed to me", if I follow you, I will see your twtxts, whether they are addressed to me, or not.
@prologic what did you replied to? I am seeing disconnected twtxts, specifically from and/or replies to, Andros.
@lyse I walked under 25°C during my lunch hour today, but with a sunshine that could fry an egg if dropped on the asphalt. I told a friend in Manila about it, and she told me that 25°C is Winter/Christmas temperatures for them. I felt cooler right away. :-)
@xuu like, badly broken. I mean, the guy doesn't even use twtxt (it is more like an RSS feed for him). So, yeah, even if it was the correct mention it would never reach the intended ears. 😂
@fastidious I see you, and your useless twtxt. :-P
@prologic I am just going over things. I don’t use it, do you?
@prologic so, where is the irc.mills.io leaf, connecting to Libera? 🤭
LOL. The compact view (which has its help tooltip broken, so one can’t tell when it does) was the one causing this issue. Turned it off, and all is good.
This on vp-compact.css:
.avatar:not(<a href="?search=profile" class="tag">#profile</a>-avatar .avatar) {
width: 2rem !important;
height: 2rem !important;
margin-top: -0.25rem !important;
}
Is colliding with yarn.min.css:
.avatar, .avatar-full {
width: 3.5rem;
height: 3.5rem;
object-fit: cover;
border-radius:var(--border-radius)
} Hahaha! And now they show tiny! I had to reload the page. So, I see the problem on iOS and macOS Safari too. I have no other browser to test with, I exclusively use Safari.
My welcome message, and first recorded mention (that I could find):

@andros how often do you send a private message on the Fediverse? How often do you send PGP/SMIME encrypted emails? Are there other tools that are more suitable for the task? If implementing direct/private messages on twtxt scratches an itch (you know, that hobbyist itch we all get from time to time), then don't give up so easily. Worse comes to worse, and your feed becomes too noisy, people can simply unfollow/mute.
I really don't care about direct messages here, but I might be on that bottom 1%!
@aelaraji tempus fugit when you are having fun! Happy 1st Twtxtversary!
@prologic good top of the morning to ya! It is still yesterday here. 🤪
@andros maybe create a separate, completely distinct feed for DM? That way, clients do not need to do anything, only those wanted to "talk in private" follow themselves, using their very special dm-only.txt feeds. 😂
@abuccidoesnm.p.psf.lt@doesnm.p.psf.lt yes, I was aware of that.
@lyse do you run your own Jabber server, or piggy back on someone else’s?
@andros yes, I am sure that, if I delete my Maildir, they will no longer show.
@aelaraji are you Jesus, or something? 😂 You are resurrecting the dead! 😅🤣
@prologic whichever works for you. Just about everyone is offering “great” advice these days; “ancient wisdom”. Many trying to inspire others. You know what? You be you, yo do you. 😅
I correct in public, and congratulate the same. I expect similarly. I am all heart! ☺️
@andros can you see the screenshot on my first twtxt? Here: https://twtxt.net/twt/mrccg4q
@andros what made you pick the 600 points criteria? Just a pick in a whim, or something else? I have found that reaching the front page is merely a good enough range for me.
One article assigning a draw of 20 watts to the human brain.
@prologic you wrote:
“Based on a recent study of the brains of mice I estimated the human brain to have 200B cells/neurons and 50,000T connections.”
What’s the relation between the brains of mice, and the human brain? I am kind of lost trying to make the connection.
I also read that it isn’t 5 watts, but more like 10-20 watts. Still a super tiny consumption, comparing to what it takes to run anything AI.
“Move to iOS” app continuously refused to run as intended and expected, so couldn’t migrate mum’s Android based phone data. Most of her stuff is on a Google account, but not the SMS/MMS/RCS messages. Haven’t found a way to export, then import those into iOS.
She isn’t too happy having to keep the old phone just for the messages. Need to find a way to go through them, export multimedia attachments, and import them into iOS. I don’t think it’s going to happen, but I am not letting her know yet. 😅
@prologic this is bananas! Replies are precious, don’t waste them!
@prologic I didn’t. Share a link? I would love to watch it!
@lyse now, that's what I am talking about! Having been witness of similar sunsets, I would wholeheartedly agree that a photo (no matter how good!) is a poor replacement for not being able to spectate it in person.
@ionores that ought to be some photo! I change mine at least once a month or so. It keeps me entertained.
Yup, it is certainly something on the codebase here. /end of test
@prologic so, the twtxt is "lost"? Don't rush to reply, I think you deserve your sleep time! Have a nice weekend!
@prologic in this case it isn't vendor lock-in. I believe they do it because the carrier "eats" the costs (the interest part of the instalments). The phones are fully unlocked.
I will return the two we got for parents, and re-buy them again, this time on an instalment plan. Why pay $2,000 up front when you can split the cost in convenient monthly payments, all interest free, right?
@prologic interesting. What would happen on a hash collision? 🤔
@prologic is it twice on database, or simply rendering twice? If you manually expunge it, will it affect the yarn?
@prologic yay! One down! 😅 Have you figured out the single duplication issue?
LOL, and the mention to the @benderyarn_police@twtxt.net police broke!
I think this is a case for... (blow trumpets) "The @benderyarn_police@twtxt.net"!
Hmm, Yarnd is duplicating the rendering of /twt/5jlfuua. That's quite odd.
@lyse that's such a beautiful shot! If I were you I would use the full "original" one; it will do better justice to the shots. Oh, and I gladly take your 15°C! 😍
@aelaraji oh yeah! You will feel in heaven, me thinks, because that new machine will go around the Pi a few laps. Have fun, mate!
@bendereapl.me@eapl.me just testing this mention, to see which random nick will be picked. Related, I agree, those animations are truly awesome!
@prologic sounds like a plan! No worries at all.
@prologic me neither! Let’s put it on the “Greatest Mysteries of Yarn” list, and move on. 😅
@prologic nope, I simply replied to the yarn, without mentioning anyone in specific.
@prologic sweet! Is it going to be your new all-around desktop, or the hobbyist server, or all of the above?
Aside from fetching feeds every three minutes (which kind of adds mystery to this puzzle), I think there is something else going on with the client you are using, @andros. Some of those twtxts are seconds apart, making me truly stumped. 😅
@prologic LOL, the conversation is very short, and your initial twtxt is just right there! Geez! Hahahaha, silly Aussie! 😅
@prologic give it some time. Twtxt is very asynchronous, and travels at the speed of mules. It might take a while to reach the intended destination. 😅
@aelaraji has things tight up so securely well, that's it's impossible to hotlink. 😅
@thecanine contribution mine:
“Any art I posted here, can be found through my (now almost—thanks to @lyse—entirely HTML 5 complient) website.”
@lyse nice! My favourite from this series is this one.

@prologic that's not what I see. The hash znf6csa cannot be found.
@kat I think it happens if you don't follow them. Replies used to be broken if so, but not sure if @prologic ever fixed that. I used not to follow him, so that he would see the broken mentions, and feel shame (he didn't, he is shameless! LOL), but ever since the re-creation of my account I just decided to follow, so I don't know if the issue is fixed or not.
I know mentioning @xuudoesnm.p.psf.lt was broken too. Maybe still is? We'll see.
Adding to this, we already tried. It didn't go too well. Slightly related---because it is a third party "integration"---I might be a "smaller group" member, but I don't care much about one-way feeds (mostly RSS from blogs, news articles, etc.) either.
I am not interested at all. If I want to interact/socialise/whatever on the Fediverse (which I do), I simply use it. I would like to keep twtxt separate.
@kat you will dazzle that therapist, regardless. You got this! And to Lucy, "oh hai!" :-)
@prologic let's all go to Australia! We crash on prologic's house; got enough inflatable mattresses, mate? 😅
@prologic remember to fix this. Where did "xuu" come from? :-D
@prologic I did, and it did. I am more than rubbish at CSS, so there!
It's on yarn.min.css, whatever that comes from. I think padding: 0; is all it needs.
@prologic there is a space on the first line on that codeblock. I think this one is the culprit:
pre>code {
padding:0 .25rem;
} @prologic I can live without highlights. Actually, I prefer not to have them. A good search is all I want.
@prologic pretty neat, search actually works now!
@movq having a similar one here, and it is only 11:41. Ugh!
@prologic yup yup. Much work to be done, so little time. 😩
